Adjudicator Biography
Soojeong Oh is currently in her fourth year of study at the University of Toronto in the Faculty of Music piano performance program under the tutelage of Marietta Orlov. At the Faculty of Music, she holds the William Aide Entrance Scholarship, a renewable full tuition scholarship awarded to the top undergraduate applicant in the piano performance program. Soojeong is also a former student of the Young Artists Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music where she studied with Dianne Werner from the age of 11.
Throughout her musical career she has immersed herself in numerous performance opportunities as a soloist, showcasing her love for the piano repertoire. At the age of 12, Soojeong competed in the OMFA provincial finals and at 14, finished as a provincial finalist at the Canadian Music Competition. Her achievements also include the Grand Prize award from the ALL TV Music Festival, the Best Pianist Trophy from the North York Music Festival, and various other awards and scholarships from across the GTA. In 2009, she was awarded her ARCT diploma with first class honours with distinction on her RCM ARCT performer’s examination. Soojeong has also performed in numerous masterclasses with such artists as Marc Durand, James Anagnoson, Leslie Kinton, Jamie Parker, Jane Coop, Andrew Burashko, Boris Lysenko, David Louie, Marc Pierre Toth, and many others. In addition, she has also had the opportunity to work with Min Kwon and Ya-Fei Chuang at a collaborative summer program in Luxembourg to further improve her skills in this area.
With her passion for performing, she has had the privilege to share her talents at Roy Thompson Hall, the Toronto Centre for the Arts, the Richmond Hill Centre for the Arts, the Lebovic Centre for Arts and Entertainment, Markham Theatre, the Luxembourg Castle, Salle Gilles-Lefebvre at the Orford Arts Centre, Walter Hall at the University of Toronto, Mazzoleni Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Sokcho Centre for the Performing Arts in South Korea.
After the completion of her undergraduate bachelors program, Soojeong will to pursue her musical studies to attain her masters in piano performance and pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory of the John Hopkins University.
